RFID have serious disadvantages such as risks to privacy and undetected fraud. All this can be done while you think you have stored your passport ‘safe’. Theoretically, it is even possible to read and / or edit it a chip from 3 to 4 meters away.
Contactless identity theft is on the increase and usually involves compromising an individual’s personal information and using the data for malicious purpose. Our personal data in passports, driving license, credit cards, or other identification is stored on an RFID chip. Technology is available to remotely scan and access our personal data. It is theoretically possible to even edit the content from 3-4 meters away using wireless frequency technology.
This simple yet effective shielded passport jacket blocks the transmission of high frequency waves (13.56 MHz or UHF 860-960 MHz) used to read biometric passports. It is designed to prevent unauthorized access to your biometric passport or other RFID enabled identification.
